Kutak Rock, a national law firm with a broad presence, set out to reshape how its Kansas City team comes together. As the firm moved to a smaller footprint in Crown Center, the goal was simple. Create a workplace that feels worth returning to.

Working in partnership with Burns & McDonnell, the design begins with a familiar gesture. The small folded corner of a page that marks a place you want to find again. Attorneys make this move every day as they work through long stretches of reading and research. It is a quiet signal of continuity and clarity, and it became the idea that guides the space.

Angular forms inspired by that dog ear appear throughout the project. Custom ceiling panels in the reception and gathering areas set the tone for movement and connection. These folds frame views, shape transitions, and invite people toward the shared heart of the office.

The workplace opens with a generous lobby and community room with wide views of the Kansas City skyline. A coffee bar, open kitchen, and window seating create a relaxed place for teams to meet. A concealed speakeasy behind a sliding panel adds a moment of discovery.

A contrasting zone offers focused work areas and garden views. A connecting stair links the two levels, bringing practice groups together and making movement feel effortless.

The result is a professional yet comfortable environment that supports a smooth return to the office. A workplace shaped by a simple fold and a clear invitation to come back.
