8th Street Market in Northwest Arkansas wins an AIA Design Award

Hufft accepted an Excellence in Architecture Merit Award at the AIA Central States Design Gala on October 5, 2017.

Hufft’s Northwest Arkansas office, located near downtown Bentonville, is honored to have its 8th Street Market Project recognized by the American Institute of Architects with an Excellence in Architecture award from the Central States chapters. The 8th Street Market project is essentially a community focused food hub. Our design program transformed a former Tyson chicken plant into an innovating food hub by giving the building a new identity while also capitalizing on the existing features and character of the building. The result simultaneously preserves the old, and gives it new meaning, creating place and community through design. The anchor tenant is NWACC’s Brightwater, a Center for the Study of Food.

Jury Notes:

“This project shows a real commitment to its community. The adaptive reuse of this non-descript poultry plant is transformed through strategic subtraction, program zoning and circulation. The exterior interventions make for a memorable user experience. The tectonic steel canopy becomes a dynamic armature through the natural elements of sun, wind and rain.”
