Streamline House, Mac Properties & Bent Dogtrot win Kansas City design awards
We’re proud to have had multiple Hufft projects recently receive honors from both the IIDA Mid America Design Awards (MADA) and AIA Kansas City Design Excellence Awards.
The IIDA MADA is a biennial event recognizing exceptional interior design work from firms in the Kansas City and Wichita, KS, metro areas. Project submittals are judged for their innovative solutions, functionality, and implementation of the overall design intent and client brand. At the IIDA MADA program, Streamline House and Mac Properties took home the top awards in their respective categories – Residential, and Corporate – Small.
Streamline House sits on a hill above a stream that pumps more than 300,000 gallons of crystal-clear water through the site each day. Located in Springfield, MO, the design was inspired by the homeowners’ desire for a house that speaks to its local traditions of simple, regional vernacular while seamlessly integrating modern sensibilities.
Mac Properties is a multi-family developer known for preserving and restoring properties in the Kansas City, St. Louis and Chicago markets. The concept of their Kansas City leasing office was driven by fostering community, and designed to feel like an extension of their residences. Its location on Kansas City’s historic Armour Boulevard has been a catalyst for additional redevelopment along that corridor, and the leasing office specifically is an example that the process of renting a living space can be positive experience.
AIA KC’s Design Excellence Awards is an annual program celebrating outstanding work from Kansas City firms. Project categories include architecture at varying square footages, interiors, concept work, and a divine detail category that recognizes specific elements of built project or stand-alone details. The Bent Dogtrot earned a citation award in the small architecture category at this year’s AIA KC design awards.
To expand an existing barn’s footprint, an approach heavily-influenced by the spirit of these timeless buildings was used for Bent Dogtrot. A twin structure was created and, inspired by the traditional dogtrot, a breezeway separates the buildings.
Thank you to the jury members from both awards programs for selecting these projects as 2018 winners.
