About Hufft

Who We Are

Hufft is an architecture and interior design studio dedicated to creating meaningful concepts inspired by people and places. Throughout our 20-year history, Hufft has grown by deeply understanding the people and places that shape each project. Our forward-thinking approach results in innovative applications of form and materials with a thorough understanding of site and context.

We specialize in projects that require distinctive solutions to complex challenges, regardless of scale or project type. Whether crafting a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture or reimagining city blocks, we are guided by the people, places, and concepts that shape each project.

Founded in 2006 by Matthew and Jesse Hufft, and joined in 2023 by partners Brad Kingsley and Jeff Kloch, our team of 35+ architects, designers, artists, and administrators work collaboratively between offices in Kansas City, MO, and Bentonville, AR. Our work has been widely published and routinely recognized for design excellence.

People Places Concept

We work in diverse locations on varied projects, but our process is consistent: People, Places, Concept. This process unites the complexities of program, site, and environment into a cohesive concept that is unique to each project. Elevating the design beyond pure functionality, the concept provides a clear, underlying vision that ensures each project is unique and meaningful.

People

We believe that all people deserve access to well-designed, healthy, and inspiring environments that are specific to the needs and values of their community. Starting with a deep understanding of the client, community, and users, this people first approach sets the foundation for the development of the project. We focus on aligning client goals and aspirations, addressing the needs of the users, and carefully considering the constraints of schedule and budget to create a design that is impactful and well executed.

Places

We believe buildings have the power to create strong connections between people and nature. By exploring the unique characteristics of each specific site, whether rural or urban, we strive to create buildings that create a sense of place and are environmentally responsive. Our understanding of place is informed by topography, landscape, materiality and the environment in addition to the physical constraints of local zoning and codes. These characteristics set the foundation for the development of the concept.

Concept

The concept is the creative essence of the project, adding artistic depth and qualitative value beyond the measurable aspects of function and form. This concept infuses the design with meaning and character, elevating it to more than the sum of its parts. It establishes the project’s formal and material logic, organizing principles, and overall aesthetic, ensuring the design remains consistent, impactful, and meaningful.
