Heavy Metal featured in The Toronto Star

Heavy Metal is a steel-clad residence that sits on eight acres of heavily-wooded land in Joplin, Mo. The homeowner, an industrial entrepreneur, wanted the residence to reflect the family business of manufacturing weigh scales.

Steel was introduced as an element to add interest and texture. Exposed custom-perforated panels wrap the exterior and are allowed to rust to bring out the natural warm reds of the steel’s iron oxide. Natural light filters through the panels in the daytime. In the evening, light from within the home softly glows through the exterior skin. Hot-rolled steel on the interior was blackened to maintain a natural grain.

The home was recently featured in The Toronto Star. The full article, including Q&A with Matthew Hufft, can be read here.
